Business Grants

The Council is committed to encouraging innovation and supporting existing companies that want to grow, as well as helping those planning to move to the area.

The Council is able to offer grants when funding allows, however, these schemes are discretionary and may have restricted eligibility. The table below outlines the grants that are offered by the Council.

LIF Cymru South East Wales (Local Investment Fund South East Wales)

The project has been developed with support from the Welsh Assembly Government through the European Regional Development Fund, under the Convergence Programme.

LIF Cymru South East Wales is a flexible grant scheme delivered through a Local Authority partnership, across Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Merthyr Tydfil, Rhondda Cynon Taf and Torfaen.

The LIF fund is specifically designed to support a range of Small and Medium Size Enterprises (SMEs). The grant is aimed primarily at manufacturing businesses but other sectors can be considered.

Applicants will need to demonstrate that a significant proportion of their activity is business to business (75% or over).

Level of financial support: Grants from £1,000 to £5,000 are available, based on 40% of the eligible project cost. Eligible capital projects could include; capital equipment, ICT equipment, development of websites, marketing materials, external and internal building works and alterations.

Commercial Improvement Area Grant

The grant assists with costs for external building improvements. Environmental and internal improvements may also be considered. All works must be within the curtilage of the property.

The property must be located within a designated Commercial/Industrial Improvement Area.  

Level of financial support: 50% of eligible costs up to a maximum grant of £15,000

Community and Prominent Buildings Grant

The grant assists with costs for external building improvements. Environmental and internal improvements may also be considered. All works must be within the curtilage of the property.

To be eligible the building will have some significant structural or community feature or be in a prominent position.

Level of financial support: 50% of eligible costs up to a maximum grant of £15,000

Regeneration Grant

The grant assists with costs for external building improvements. Environmental and internal improvements may also be considered. All works must be within the boundary of the property.

The grant assists businesses not eligible under the Objective 1 Grant Programme.

Level of financial support: 50% of eligible costs up to a maximum grant of £10,000

Business Start-up grant

The grant programme assists small businesses (who have not yet started trading) with their early set-up costs e.g. funding towards initial outlay on equipment.

Applicants will be required to prepare a Business Plan with the guidance of a Business Advisor from an Enterprise Agency.

Level of financial support:  Grant of between £500 and £2000 – 50% of eligible costs

E-commerce Grant

The grant assists businesses to gain or develop an internet presence. Eligible items may include design of website and registration of domain name.

Level of financial support: 50% of eligible costs up to a maximum grant of £2,000

Townscape Enhancement Programme (Ferndale) TEP

The grant assists with costs for external building improvements. Environmental and internal improvements may also be considered. All works must be within the curtilage of the property.

The property must be located within the designated Ferndale Commercial Improvement Area.  

Level of financial support: 50% of eligible costs up to a maximum grant of £50,000

PLEASE NOTE

Any purchases or works undertaken before any written Grant Approval from Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council cannot be considered for grant purposes.

Neighbourhood Renewal Area – Non-Housing Fund

Community-based organisations are being invited to apply to Rhondda Cynon Taf Council for funding for schemes that will benefit the wider population in the Neighbourhood Renewal Areas.

Capital Funding is available for environmental improvement projects in the identified areas of Treherbert, Tynewydd, Miskin and Penrhiwceiber.

The investment will complement the significant work already taking place in the Neighbourhood Renewal Areas, which has seen extensive work on private houses and the community infrastructure with the aim of raising the quality of life for all.

The capital funding is available via the Rhondda Cynon Taf Neighbourhood Renewal Area Non-Housing Fund for formally constituted community organisations and is for capital projects that will deliver sustainable benefits to Neighbourhood Renewal Area residents.
